Discovery Center Gets $9k Grant

The Discovery Center – Great Lakes has received a $9,350 grant from the Michigan Humanities Council to develop educational signs and interpretive panels for its upcoming Ship Shapes exhibit. The grant is in addition to a $6,000 grant from the Traverse Bay Sunrise Rotary Club for the exhibit's construction and in-kind donation of materials from Preston Feather Building Center in Traverse City. The exhibit will be displayed in the Discovery Center's courtyard and will allow all ages to explore different types of ships, including a historic Mackinaw boat, a modern sloop and a model of a Coast Guard buoy tender. Museum Researching Local Aircraft Carriers

The Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum in Northport is looking for information on the World War II aircraft carriers that were used in Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay for an upcoming exhibit. If anyone in Leelanau County or the surrounding Grand Traverse area has any images, firsthand accounts, newspaper articles or other histories related to these unique aircraft carriers they are asked to email Amanda or call 386.7195. Changing the classic time, talent, and treasuer

We were talking about Stewardship and Tom O’Brien suggested it was time to replace the classic three “T’s” of Time, Talent and Treasure with categories that would be more helpful in growing stewards. His suggestion was that we would be better served by three new “Stewardship T’s” of Thanksgiving, Trust and Transformation. I have revisited the conversation with Tom many times and I believe we are well served by interpreting Time, Talent and Treasure through the lens of Thanksgiving, Trust and Transformation.
