TC Kiwanis to Ship 20,000 Meals to Feed Hungry

The Kiwanis Club of Traverse City will package 20,000 meals to be shipped around the world to help feed the hungry as part of a service project conducted in partnership with Kids Against Hunger Coalition of Michigan. The program, in its ninth year, will gather more than 75 volunteers at Traverse City Central High School on Saturday, February 7 from 9-11:30 am to assemble the food packages, each containing six nutritionally complete meals. Some of the packages will be distributed within the local community. Several TC Kiwanis clubs and sponsored youth clubs from area schools contributed funds and volunteers to help make the program possible. A total of $5,600 was raised to support the packaging of this year's 20,000 meals. The Kiwanis Foundation of Traverse City also funded the project. Permalink

Janis Is Chamber's Distinguished Service Award Winner : News : The Ticker

Susanne (Susie) Janis is the recipient of the 2014 DistinguishedService Award from the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce. Janis is recognized for her nearly four decades of volunteer service. Thatservice includes Northwestern Michigan College's Foundation Board –where she oversaw a $6 million fundraising campaign to build the Dennos Museum Center and development of its membership program – the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation Board and the Traverse Symphony Friendsboard. She was also among the first women to serve as a director for the Traverse City Area Chamber and was instrumental in the development of the Smith Family Breast Health Center. Janis was also involved in several endeavors outside the Grand Traverse region, including the Michigan Community Economic Excellence Board,Michigan's Bureau of History and the Michigan Humanities Council. Today she's involved with the Grand Traverse Community Foundation, BigBrothers Big Sisters of Northwest Michigan and the Front Street Writers group among other organizations. Janis says she's both "honored" and "humbled" by the recognition,adding that she's been the real beneficiary of her years of volunteer service. "It's introduced me to such a wide range of really fabulous people,from both genders and of all ages," she says. "I tell everyone that I've gotten a PhD in people … it's enlightened me so much." Janis will be presented with the award during the Chamber's AnnualCelebration on Fri., Jan. 23, at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa. Hagerty Names Its Nonprofit Partner

TART Trails has been selected as Hagerty's 2015 Nonprofit Partner, the company announced at an annual celebration last night. TART will receive a financial gift of $25,000 as well as employee service and pro bono consulting to boost the organization's capacity. "TART shares in our commitment to economic development," says McKeel Hagerty, president and CEO. “We share a common vision to provide healthy, accessible trail systems to benefit residents in the Grand Traverse region with a concentration on driving infrastructure that will help our increasingly linked communities grow. Our employees anticipate being able to work side-by-side with the organization’s leadership in 2015 to leverage additional resources and, together, positively impact our community.” TART participated in a competitive review process for the partnership. It is the second year of Hagerty's Annual Nonprofit Partner program. The selection of its nonprofit partner culminates a year of giving by Hagerty, which has generated more than 10,000 hours of service to communities in which the company operates. Year-end giving included the adoption of 97 elementary-aged students in the Traverse City Area Public Schools for Christmas. Hagerty Announces Request for Proposal for 2015 Annual Nonprofit Partner

Submissions due by 5 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014

(Traverse City, Michigan) – Hagerty is pleased to announce the acceptance of Request for Proposals from area organizations to be considered as Hagerty’s 2015 Annual Nonprofit Partner. In addition to a financial investment of $25,000, Hagerty will work with the selected nonprofit to plan a mutually determined year-long service program.

Qualified organizations will be based in the five county Grand Traverse region and be a registered 501(c)(3) organization. Organizations that can benefit from Hagerty’s capabilities in customer experience, business strategy and marketing are encouraged to apply.

RFP applications will be accepted via email through 5 p.m. EST on Friday, November 21. A committee from Hagerty, utilizing the expertise and services of the Northsky Nonprofit Network, will review applications and will conduct site visits to the finalists during the first week of December. The 2015 Annual Nonprofit Partner will be announced on December 11, 2014.

The Father Fred Foundation was selected as the inaugural Annual Nonprofit Partner and used Hagerty’s pro bono service and skills to review and revise marketing plans, increase their presence in the Traverse City area through participation at two marquee events over the summer and provide essential items for individuals and families in need.
