How Rotary's $1 Million Coal Dock Offer Came To Be
Rotary Charities is stepping up with an $1 million offer to purchase the former Coal Dock on West Bay from Traverse City Light & Power (TCL&P) – with its first priority to open it up to public access.
The offer actually encompasses three parcels, explained Becky Ewing, associate director of Rotary Charities: the actual dock area where coal was once delivered in Greilickville, 200 feet of waterfront and the former coal storage lot directly north of the Great Lakes Children’s Museum across M-22.
The coal dock has been dormant for more than a decade and TCL&P has indicated its desire to get rid of property it no longer needs. Though TCL&P is the owner, the property does have to be declared “surplus” and the city has to agree. more
