Epicurean festival Taste of Traverse City has been canceled
for 2015, according to Executive Director Carol Lewis. The event was slated to
take place September 18-20 in the Open Space.
In a letter to event supporters,
Lewis says the festival was taking a one-year hiatus but would return in 2016
.
"There were several factors that influenced this decision," Lewis
says, "including the labor shortage for the second year in a row in the
Traverse City area prohibiting exhibitors from commiting to the festival early
enough to allow us to start promoting by early July." Lewis also said area
wineries had expressed concern about participating due to limited supplies from
damaged crops the past two years. "Given the circumstances, we have chosen
to support the businesses affected by extending the amount of time to prepare
appropriately for 2016, as well as allow us the time to effectively plan and
promote the festival to achieve the most successful outcome for all
involved," she concluded.
Lewis says her team remains "dedicated
to delivery a high-quality, professional and engaging foodie festival"
next year.
